In the run up to Diwali the children at Westwood School have been learning about Hinduism and the story of Rama and Sita. We looked at the different ways Hinud's celebrate Diwali, made Rangoli patterns and Mendhi patterns and some children even acted out the story! To complete our learning we had a visitor come to our school to teach us even more wonderful things about Diwali and what happens on Diwali day.
The children began the day by listening to a special message from a lady telling us how she gets herself and her family ready for Diwali- she told us they get us and dressed at 4am!
Then we got the chance to dress up a teacher in a very beautiful Sari with lots of jewellery. After that we all wore special clothes and danced to Indian music. We also looked at lots of Diwali artefacts, made rangoli patterns, got mendhi stamps on our hands and explored the ingredients needed to make a curry.
All of the children were exceptionally behaved and thoroughly enjoyed the day- as did the teachers!
Please take a look at the photographs from our day, we hope you like them.
