Hello and Welcome to the Year One and Year Two Page!
Hello and welcome to the Year One and Year Two Class Page. Mrs Armstrong will be teaching in this class this year and Lynsey will also be working with us. We are really looking forward to working with the children and supporting their progress as we go through the school year. We have some wonderful topic and learning experiences planned to ignite, enthuse and stimulate the children's learning.
As ever, if you have any questions or issues you need to discuss, please do not hesitate to contact me either via the School Office, through email or by phone.
We look forward to working with you this coming year.

We have been very busy this week. On Thursday we visited Green’s Windmill in Nottingham which is a working windmill that produces flour to sell. We made bread using flour produced by the windmill then had a tour of the windmill. We saw all the machinery and how the windmill used bags of grain to create white and brown flour. There were so many steep steps to the top of the windmill and the children did amazingly well to climb them all! Finally we got to go in the Science Centre where there were lots of fabulous Science activities for us to do.

We have had an incredibly busy week in Year 1/2 this week. On Monday we travelled to Newstead Abbey to learn about about what it was like to be a child in Victorian times. We wore a school uniform and attended a class (where we had to pay 1p!). In the classes we had wooden desks with slates to write on. When Mr Miller came into the class we all had to stand up until he told us to sit down. We also had a guided tour of the top of Newstead Abbey where the Webb family used to live many years ago. We looked in the children's bedroom and saw lots of their toys - they are so different to the toys we enjoy playing with today. The children behaved impeccably and we had a fantastic time.
In the classroom this week we have been looking at counting in steps from a wide range of numbers. The Year 2 children have been investigating place value and how we can partition a 2 digit number into tens and ones.
Our Science topic is all about our bodies - this week we have been learning about our vital organs such as our heart, lungs and brain and what their function is.
We are also very busy learning our Harvest song ready for our visit to St. Mary's Church next Wednesday (the link is above).
